Easy Setup Better Build Quality

As an outdoor movie projector, the Optoma HD142X can certainly handle the smaller outdoor screens and do a far better job then lower priced projectors in terms of picture quality. This is really what sets this projector apart.  The venue and occasion you use it for may not just be an informal gathering of family and friends. It may involve other businesses, be some sort of fundraiser, or be a once in a lifetime event like a wedding or graduation.  Quality will matter in those types of occasions so the little extra you spend for a higher performance projector will be justified.

The various Optoma models we use are often on for several hours a night, several nights during the week, and the brightness and sharpness are certainly satisfactory.  The Optoma HD142X lists an 8000-hour lamp life, which in general is above average. We’ve been able to rely on the Optoma brand without much maintenance issues.  At some point the lamp will probably have to be replaced, that’s just one of the conditions that come with owning a lamp-based projector. Some of the older Optoma’s we’ve owned in the past have clearly lost some brightness in the image, but even with that loss, those older Optomas are brighter and sharper than the brand new inexpensive projectors on the market today.    This is why the Optomas are priced a little higher than your average projector.  It exceeds in performance over time. It’s very highly rated customer satisfaction rating may keep supplies of this projector limited, so please be patient if it’s not immediately available.Besides the signature sharp picture quality and good resolution you expect from an Optoma projector, the 3000-lumen brightness and high contrast ratios make this project a better choice for outdoor events you plan to use it for.  Even at this $500+ price tag, many customers acknowledge that the Optoma HD142X still gives you the most value for the money.  No picture quality is compromised for price.   It’s a mid-ranged priced projector that many non-professionals can afford but yet still get near professional-grade image quality. This is why we can very much recommend the Optoma HD142X .

Frequently Asked Questions Answered

  • Can you hook a dvd player up to it? if so, is the quality ok?

Yes, this shouldn’t be a problem and the picture quality will still be very good, many prefer to hook up a Blueray player, Apple TV or a Roku or Xbox  device.

  • Why is this projector recommended for outdoors, I thought the manufacture said it’s only for home indoors?

Indoor use would certainly be optimal, but we have used this projector outdoor on a fairly large screen, The movies have gone really well. If anything, it shows just how versatile this projector is.

  • Is there a difference in external speaker quality or delay with audio feed from video pc or blu-ray versus audio feed at projector speaker output?

I’ve listened to movies and music amplified on DVD/Blueray players and projected with this device. There is little to no noticeable delay.  If there is any delay then it’s usually an issue with the DVD/Blueray player or the disc itself being played.  In those situations where the sound has to be taken from this projectors audio output, again, the sound quality is very good when properly amplified, the delay not at all noticeable

  • Can i use this projector with television cable and use netflix on it? can i use it with the amazon firestick?

There is no direct connection or input for cable or firestick.  Those devices have to be plugged into this projector using an HDMI cable.  You may want to try Roku, otherwise what you’d want to do to watch Netflix using firestick is hook up the firestick to your LCD TV, and then project the LCD TV playing Netflix  with the projector. We will be reviewing projectors that can project Firestick directly without added equipment so please stay tuned or search the site.
